In the essay "What is Quality of Life?," Francisco Orozco states that we need to consider the spiritual part of quality of life if we want to make quality of life better. When the author traveled to southern Mexico, he realized that quality of life includes more than money because the people there seemed happy even though they didn"t have a lot of it. He saw people enjoying spending time with their neighbors, playing music and making traditional art. Orozco does discuss some advantages to living in a society with a higher standard of living, like better services and more modern technology. However, he then states that people in these societies often do not have good relationships with friends and family members. He also points out that crime is worse in societies with a higher standard of living.
